Golf is a precision club-and-ball sport played on a large outdoor course, where the primary goal is to hit a ball into a series of holes using as few strokes as possible. Unlike most ball games, golf does not use a standardized playing area; instead, each course features a unique landscape consisting of 9 or 18 holes.
Each hole begins at the tee box, where players take their first shot toward the green, a patch of closely mown grass where the hole is located. Between these two points lies the fairway (short grass) and various obstacles known as hazards, such as “rough” (long grass), sand-filled bunkers, and water.
Players use a variety of clubs—including woods for long distances, irons for precision, and putters for the green—to navigate these obstacles. The game is unique because it is often played without a referee, relying on a strict code of etiquette and sportsmanship. Because it requires a combination of physical skill, mental focus, and outdoor strategy, golf is a popular lifelong sport for people of all ages.
